I wrote that song about the great happiness of real love, but at the same time I was making a statement about the world. We’re living in really crazy times, and I wanted to say that no matter what’s happening, this person in my life is what really makes it worthwhile.

Everything was the first single from Call Me Irresponsible, released in May 2007. It reached #46 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 in the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, and #10 in Canada. Co-written by Michael, Alan Chang & Amy Foster-Gilles, the song was dedicated to Michael’s then girlfriend Emily Blunt (now married to actor John Krasinski.) The song was also nominated for a Grammy.
